CNI / CIRCo situation now and in closest future

  últim editat: Fri, 10 Aug 2018 10:51:59 +0300

Situation Report

1. The process of formation of political community based on radical political contract ( stopped. My anecdotal observations tell me that people involved in radical political activity are not very well equipped for long-term technical infrastructural work and people who are technically-oriented tend to avoid political discussions. This way or another, some people who were initially interested in co-creating the community left or declared they would not take full time position. Other people, interested in technical projects, showed no interest in political discussion. That reduced the number of politically AND technologically involved members to 2 humans and 2 non-humans.

2. On the practical level, we are working towards creating sustainable income source to keep us alive, while preserving our values.

As a minimum, they include:
2.1. Our commitment to living in and contributing to solidarity economy, as defined in
2.2. Our commitment to co-create and develop Community Supported Manufacturing (as described here:
2.3. Our commitment to stimulate and support community-driven efforts to adapt to and survive in climate change era in a sustainable and resilient way.
2.4. Our commitment to develop and implement self-organised integral cooperative (see as economic framework for a community in hybrid environment (containing both capitalist and capitalism-free institutions).
2.5. Our commitment to sell our work and products within equitable and inclusive freemium open source economic model (as described here:thumbnail

Freemium Open Source Economic Model
by cnicoop on CIRCo

3.  We are also looking for very cheap or free (in exchange for taking care of the place) place to live and work. We are now located in Greece, on island of Samos, but (funding allowing), we are able to move if there is a reason.

Short-term plans and actions

1. We decided to suspend the process of creating radical political community, until there are more people interested in it. We will complete basic draft documents and keep them available for interested persons. For next three months (till the end of October 2018) we will keep the online presence of CNI/CIRCo in non-political mode. At the end of this period, we will decide whether to keep or to cancel it altogether.

2. We decided to keep all productive (technological and economic) activity going on, without presenting explicit political profile. Until we reach sustainable living situation (place to live and work for at least a year and viable source of income from our work), we will focus on this aspect of our activity.

3. We are now developing a series of low-tech sustainable products, following needs of our immediate social surroundings. First three of them will be available by the end of August.

4. From the beginning of September (August is generally a dead time in Greece) we will start actively looking for a place to live and work, starting from Samos island and gradually expanding the radius of search, as needed.

5. Our 3-year goal still is:
-- To create sustainable and resilient enterprise of solidarity economy.
-- To gather team of 15-30 people, fully involved in its activity.
-- To participate in a confederated network of such entities – islands of liberatory technology.

If you, Dear Reader, support our goals and commitments, talk to us and join our effort!

Community Supported Manufacturing -- capitalism-free production sector

yacy - distributed web crawler and search engine

Just learned from a PureOS (Beta) ticket that Debian is preparing a package for yacy, which sounds quite interesting! Has anybody experience with this?

And can Hubzilla be related to this approach some useful way?

#452422 - RFP: yacy -- distributed web crawler and search engine - Debian Bug report logs

With PureOS, you are the only one in control of your digital life. PureOS is a derivative of Debian GNU/Linux, with the best privacy-protecting software applications preinstalled. With GNOME 3 and Wayland, enjoy fluid high-framerate videos, frame-perfect animations and better power management. PureOS helps you surf the web safely, without being tra...

Of course, you could modify your instance to return skewed results, but how much would that matter for other instances? It's much easier to control this in a centralised search engine than a distributed one.
It's a matter of trust.
I used to run one of these, it's fun if you want a custom search on some poorly indexed sites but most peers just seem to index random crap. You could search for wikipedia and wouldn't even show up in the results.
Community Supported Manufacturing -- first take

  últim editat: Fri, 20 Jul 2018 17:12:33 +0300
So, what #Community Supported #Manufacturing can be?

There is a community that needs advanced technical products, but lacks skills or other conditions to make them. And there is a community that is able to make them, but lacks seed funds, or just sheer work-power.

So, pretty much similar to Community Supported Agriculture, one or more "receiving" communities support the manufacturing one and all of them benefit from the outcome.

We see it as a part of mutual building of community resilience and sustainability through partnership with another community, having complementary skills or resources.

We are right now having a conversation about first such an agreement with one of bigger European intentional communities, which may hopefully set up the initial standard for self-organised industrial confederacy.

Talk to me, if you want to join the social industrial revolution.

Affinity - what is?

We declare:
Our community is affinity-based

But what it really means?
Here is a very good description of affinity, as a way of self-organisation, by people from Sub Media.

Affinity -- beyond friendship.
Many draw back in front of affinity.

It is in fact a lot easier and less demanding to sign up to something, be it an organization, a permanent assembly or an environment and to take up and reproduce formal characteristics, rather than undertaking a long and never exhausted research for comrades with whom to share ideas, analysis and eventual projects.

Because affinity is exactly this: a reciprocal knowledge between comrades, shared analysis that lead to perspectives of action.

Affinity is therefore directed on one hand towards theoretical deepening and on the other towards intervention in social conflictuality. It aspires to the sharing of ideas and methods, and it does not have as a goal an infinite growth.
For some comrades, one of the main preoccupations, even though often well hidden, seems to remain the number.
How many are we? What should we do to be more? From the polarization on such a question and from the constatation that today we are not many, given by the fact that many others do not share our ideas deriving the conclusion that we should, to grow numerically, avoid putting too hard of an accent on certain ideas.

Affinity is not the same thing as friendship.

Of course the two do not exclude each other as the search for affinity occurs on an interpersonal level. It is not a collective event, a group affair, where it is always easier to follow than to think for oneself.

The deepening of affinity is evidently a matter of thought and action, but in the end affinity is not the strictly about carrying out an action together, but rather a starting point from which to then pass to action.

It is true that the search and the deepening of affinity require a lot of time and energy, and that therefore it is not possible to generalize it to all comrades.

The anarchist movement of a country, of a city or even of a neighbourhood cannot become one big affinity group.

It is not about enlarging different affinity groups with more comrades, but to make possible the multiplication of autonomous affinity groups.

The search, the elaboration and the deepening of affinity leads to small groups of comrades that know each other, share analysis and pass together to action.

Political Contract. Beta version.

After several weeks of work and a bit of discussion, here is the beta version of CNI / CIRCo political contract. You are invited to browse it and put your comments here.

1. Beta version means that this text was written and consulted in open way, available for all current (de facto) members of CNI and several supporters/friends from outside. There are no pending reservations or requests for change of its content. The document may change during the official founding assembly, which will hopefully endorse it as the fundamental part of coop's regulations.
2. As the acronym "CNI" bears very bad connotations in Spanish-speaking world, being the name of Spanish military intelligence agency, we started changing it to CIRCo which sounds much more lightheartedly in both languages.

CNI-CIRCo political contract

What is the political backbone of our community?
Food (and other) Production Synergy Map. 1st take

This is a first take on the production planning for CNI Samos activity. It is based on simplified implementation of, where sectors are, respectively:
1. [GREEN] extraction of raw materials (primary),
2. [BLUE] manufacturing (secondary),
3. [ORANGE] services (tertiary).
So, first we will have raw materials (resources) we can extract (grow) or acquire locally. Next "ring" will be what we can make (process/manufacture) out of it. Third ring will show services we can derive, based on two inner sectors.
Of course there will be inputs from other sources, cooperative or not. Some of them may later become our products/services, making the cooperative economy expand.

This map should give us information on our capabilities and thus let us choose and prioritize among them.
